Munster Age Groups UL 18th/19th May

Last weekend saw Nenagh Neptune travel to limerick with a squad of 12 swimmers enter into 33 competitive swims in the Munster LC age groups championships, this is up from 1swimmer last year competing  in 3 events

The day started off with the boys 400 free  where Thomas Adams was chasing his Division 1 time unfortunately Thomas narrowly missed out by a just over 1sec. Next were the girls where Ellie Molamphy and Olwyn Dunne were competing, Ellie swam 5.53 in a great swim considering she only made her “A” times last week  and Olwyn swam 5.36 which qualified her for Division 2 and a silver medal.

Back crawl  is one of the most highly contested swims outside the free, Mark Ryan took 7 sec off his time from last week and made a final were he finished 8th. Isabelle Dunne’s 100 Back crawl was going to be the highlight of her day as she is very close to making the Munster team for the British Nationals, she made the final in a time of 1.12.72 and after not feeling too well she swam 1.12.60 in the final to get a silver medal to add to her sisters.

One of the strongest swims of the day was from Ethan Geoghegan in the 100 Butterfly were he achieved a personal best time to make the final in which he came 7th. Another notable swim of the day was Sinead O’ Dwyer in the 100Butterfly,  Sinead only started with the Club last year and is showing great promise

Day 2 commenced with the 200 free.  Mathew Hogan achieved a personal best time of 2.29; this was a surprise for Mathew but not for his coach Shay O’ Dwyer. Ian Knight ‘s favourite event is the 100 Breaststroke and  he really pushed himself  to make division 2 times but narrowly missed out by a fraction of a second. Elaine Yelverton also missed the 200 free by  .75  second but made up for it in the 100 free were she made the Division 2 time.

Mathew Hogan  swam the 100 free in a time of 63 .70 and achieved  his Division 2 time. Isabelle  Dunne also made the 100 free final and swam 66.60 which give her another Division 1 time. Other notable swims today came from Emily Ryan as this was her first Munster Age groups after qualifying only last week, Emily was the youngest swimmer in our team at the age of 11.  She showed dedication and maturity beyond her age and will certainly go far in swimming.

Well done to all and thanks to the parents who help out over the weekend. As the season is coming to a close the next gala is Fermoy’s Invitation on Saturday 25th and a Grade C in Ennis Friday 31st May.
